All
spas are not the same. In fact, there are many different kinds of spas,
each serving different needs. At Spa Finder, we have organized spas into
the following 6 categories:
Destination Spas
focus on providing a renewing experience for body, mind, and spirit, and
inspiring guests to healthier, more joyous living. Dedicated education
programs, physical fitness activities, professionally administered spa
services, and healthful spa cuisine are the heart and soul of a
Destination Spa program.
Resort Spas
are found on the grounds of vacation resorts. They are places where spa
treatments and services are offered to complement such resort activities
as golf, tennis, horseback riding, and water sports. Healthful spa cuisine
is on the menu, but so is traditional fare and alcohol. In the evenings,
guests can enjoy resort pastimes like dancing and live entertainment.
Children´s programs are also offered.
Wellness Spas
are special facilities that address guests´ specific health issues. These
kinds of retreats welcome guests with health problems as well as those who
are interested in learning how to live healthier lives. Some Wellness Spas
follow a traditional medical model and offer physical evaluations and
lifestyle prescriptions; others follow a holistic approach.
Weight Management Spas
are places that specialize in lifestyle change for weight loss and weight
maintenance. Most of these spas are medically oriented and include
physician supervision.
Spas Abroad
are as varied as the cultures in which they are found. Many European spas
retain an Old World elegance and a leisurely pace, while spas in Asia and
other parts of the world make creative use of indigenous design and
healing traditions.
Day Spas
are designed to provide a healing, beautifying, or pampering experience in
a short period of time. Guests may book individual treatments that last
for as little as an hour or a package of treatments that may take up to a
whole day. Found throughout North America today, Day Spas are freestanding
or located in health clubs, hotels, and department stores.
