Now the spa trend is moving to the home, where consumers can get the benefits of
a day spa in their own private retreat. These new home spa products create an
emotional sanctuary; an oasis from cell phones, voice mail, pagers and e-mail. A
home spa provides a respite from the breakneck pace of modern life.
"Our interpretation of home spa elicits four 're' words -- relax, refresh,
rejuvenate and retreat," says Michael Moldenhauer, marketing manager - bathing
products for Kohler Co. "The home spa concept centers on unwinding and indulging
in a familiar environment. With a day at the spa costing $400 or more, you can
invest quite a lot in your home spa and still recoup those dollars quickly," he
adds.
Kohler recently launched its new Purist Suite, a coordinated home spa
collection. Assimilating elements such as natural lavastone countertops,
wet-surface lavatories with faucets integrated with mirrored storage to capture
the interplay of flowing water, and a deep soaking bath with effervescence and
chromatheraphy, the Purist Suite captures Earth's basic elements with Zen-like
simplicity. With more than 10 components, the modular collection encourages
consumers to create a personalized, luxurious spa.
A deep-soaking tub is the centerpiece of the Purist Suite. Consumers can choose
from the square, geometric sok bath, or the elliptical, cocooning shape of the
Purist bath. The Purist bath is engineered to be a shell within a shell, with an
overflow rim that allows the bather to be fully immersed in warm water. "Deep
bathing engages all of the senses. You're sitting in water up to your chin and
you have a sense of being enveloped. In a sok, you hear the water overflowing,
while in the Purist bath it's so utterly quiet that you hear the effervescent
bubbles snapping at the surface," says Moldenhauer.
Both baths offer chromatherapy: the baths are equipped with four LED light ports
within the inner walls of the bath. With the touch of a button, the bath becomes
a gentle pool of light. The bather is washed by a series of eight hues over the
next minute or so. The progression starts with neutral white light followed by
three cool, relaxing colors -- purple, indigo and aqua blue -- then green
serving as the balancing color, then three warm, stimulating colors -- yellow,
orange and red. Each color begins softly, peaks as a full, solid color, then
gently fades away as the next color begins to fade in.
The baths also boast a bubble system that provides champagne-like effervescence.
"There are other bubble systems on the market, but ours are very small bubbles,
they are not cold when the enter the system, and they are utterly quiet," says
Moldenhauer. "The bubbles cling to one another and they cling to your skin. Then
they run softly up the body. It's a wonderful feeling."
Another component of the Purist Suite is a wet surface lavatory that is flat and
basin-less and has a water channel around the outside, like water in a fountain
pouring out on a flat surface, then gently sliding away. There's also a mirrored
cabinet with an integral laminar-flow faucet to capture the visually arresting
interplay of flowing water, and a natural solid-surface lava stone countertop.
The Purist Suite also offers matching cabinets and a cast iron shower receptor
with a teak floor grate, and Purist doors that let you put Kohler steam into
your shower. There are artistically designed Purist faucets and accessories as
well. The Purist Suite is available in a wide range of colors, including the new
tea green.
A Kohler home spa creates a peaceful sanctuary within a familiar environment.
With a retreat like this at home, stress may become a thing of the past.
